MUSIC OF SOUND
Nature makes music. In the quiet stillness of dusk, in the Andaman Islands, the incessant troll of a tropical insect sets up a percussion beat of its own, as if making the sea waves dance to its rhythm. The blowing breeze hums a soft note akin to a flute, and it all orchestrates into magical melodious music. The music of natural sounds.
Mouse-click and imagine one is sitting dreamily in a long boat in Nanital lake, and as the boat moves slowly ahead, with the gulping splashing sound of the oars neatly cutting back the emerald green water, the sound is divinely rhythmic and infinitely relaxing. A hypnotic-meditative state is induced by nature's music, and one is blown away into oblivion losing all sense of here and now.
In Antarctica, a gaggle of penguins make funny whining snorts and yelp animatedly in unison as the penguins run from now here to nowhere. Their purpose is not clear but it is clear that their's is also the music of nature. The flap of their webbed feet adds to the symphony.
As it dawns in the Bhogal market of Delhi when shops are still closed, thirty three mynah birds in a tree chatter and trill animatedly. The music of bird-sound soothes, refreshes and uplifts the early risers, just like a morning Bhajan or Raaga, before the defeaning traffic and noisy din of the market place take over and create cacophony.
A farmer in Karnal district of Haryana trudges across his farm, sweating profusely and mumbling a ribald Haryanvi song. This is also perfectly good music since it touches the heart though the farmer doesnt hit a single good note while singing.
Do the above four classify as the Music of Life, or does a husky female voice pelting out "DJ waley babu mera gaana baja do... do.....do.....do....do? Compare the present songs with the classic Hindi songs of the years 1950 to 1980, the golden era of Hindi music. Besides being memorable they are alive, even today ..... say "Ek Haseen Shaam ko dil mera kho gaya" or "Aagey bhi jaaney na tu." The Music of Sound, which is a harmonious representation of Mother Nature is truly wholesome, healing, therapeutic and divine, not the present day ridiculously vulgar cheap and demeaning songs which pass as music.
Unfortunately, most of the "music"of today adds to our Life-stress, by being loud, cheap and non-melodious. We would be better off without this noise-pollution.
